      History And Location
      Out of all the cities for tourism that Rajasthan has to offer, Jaisalmer is one of the best places to visit. This beautiful town is about 350 kilometers west from the capital city of Jaipur.

      One of the best features of the city is that it stands on a yellowish sandstone.       Jaisalmer is well connected through all three modes of transport, by train, plane and by road.

      • By train - Jaisalmer city is connected with the great Indian Railway system. All major cities of India are linked with Jaisalmer railway station.
      • By air - Jodhpur is the nearest airport, which is located about three hundred kilometres from the city. It is quite comfortable to travel by road, from the airport. Generally, international travellers fly up to Jodhpur and take a cab till Jaisalmer.
      • By road - Special sleeping and sitting luxury coaches are available from the airport of Jodhpur till Jaisalmer. You can also reach the city by hired cars and taxis.
      The Best Time To Visit
      The most ideal time to visit Jaisalmer is from October to March. The city provides a different climate for its travellers, travelling from colder weather conditions, with a tropical environment.

      April to June months should be strictly avoided as these months are extremely hot due to the scorching heat which is not suitable for sightseeing.

      The Jaisalmer Fort – This fort located on the Meru Hills, which is named as Trikoot Garh. The fort was built in 1156 and it has seen several wars and battles over the years. The sandstone walls are popular for its ever-changing colors. During daytime, the walls would be in tawny color, which would turn to honey-gold during sunset.
